Compost Testing at Texas Plant and Soil Lab

Carbonicum Media Analysis for Compost and Rooting Media

TPS Lab was one of the earliest pioneers (as Texas Soil Laboratory, Inc.) in compost quality testing, starting in the 1950s. Since those days, the lab has continued to develop, innovate and expand real-world quality testing to include virtually all forms and combinations of rooting media - organic and inorganic.

TPS Lab’s Technical Director, Noel Garcia, CCA, has just written a paper, “Carbonicum Media Analysis for Compost and Rooting Media” discussing the processing and other differences between analyzing soil and those involving compost and rooting media. The paper also discusses “Nutrient Balance” and includes an interpretation guide for the standard Carbonicum Media Analysis.

Carbonicum Media Analysis should be of special interest to custom composters, rooting media formulators and processors, greenhouses and nurseries.

While TPS Lab performs the standard protocols for compost and rooting media in general, including USCC’s STA required methods, its Carbonicum Media Analysis remains by far the most accurate and comprehensive test in the industry for compost quality and actual plant-available nutrients. Please see the paper for the whole story and the Fee Schedule for the many options for compost and rooting media testing.
